On January 15, 2019 Summitview PS was the last school in Ontario's York Region to adopt the controversial child data collection tool Edsby. After many complaints and concerns by privacy advocates, parents and the media, the York Region District School Board issued a statement indicating that it was going ahead with the data collection program on behalf of a private, local company that shares children's data with unspecified partners and third parties, has little evidence of security practices and charges school boards millions of dollars a year to make this data available online to board employees and teachers. The system is marketed as a social learning platform.

Days since Edsby started collecting student info without parental consent
